...Christmas in OCTOBER!

It's October and signs of fall are everywhere...but in the back of my mind I cannot help but think about Christmas! I'm planning, thinking about what traditions we'll do this year and getting ready to make some homemade gifts.  My first goal is to make my Christmas List {I'm making a list and checking it twice}!

If you're crazy like me...here are a few things to start thinking about to save you some time & money this coming holiday season. If you are normal just move on and in several weeks check out the video below (its DIVINE)!

...Christmas in JULY!

...If you did not know already I LOVE CHRISTMAS and I never seem to be organized the way I want to be, in time to do all that I want to do, when that glorious season rolls around...so every month around the 25th (until December) I am going to share my goals for getting a few things done ahead of time...

It's July 25th...are you ready yet?

Okay, I'm just kidding, but I hope some of you out there get where I am going with this...and let me know if you decide to join me!

Random...Christmas & New Years Pictures (continued)!

 Random Stuff...Christmas,
Chocolate Chip Cookies, Tremper Fam, Birthday Fun, a Hot Chocolate Tea Party & a little New Year's dinner!

Here are some pics of Paige making cookies with Daddy!  They made them for Auntie Mishawn's birthday request...Homemade Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches
(try saying that 3 times fast)!

Don't you love her apron (another great gift from Auntie Shannon)?
I made this crown with a $1 store paper crown that had a little girl princess design on it.  First I painted it and then while it was wet I covered it in glitter!  I added the flowers with rhinestone brads & the numbers are just a print out from our computer that I cut out with special scalloped scissors. This project is easy and quick and special!  Also, I think theNestle Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe is the BEST...find it HERE! To make the sandwiches be sure to let the cookies cool to room temperature and then just add good vanilla ice cream (like Bryers) & chill! Yummy!

We love Auntie Mishawn!

Annual Christmas Time with the Trempers! Wooohooo! We had so much fun (although getting a good picture was impossible)!

I even had time to squeeze in a little tea party for the girls...complete with PB&J sandwiches in Christmas shapes, Candy Cane Scones and Candy Cane Hot Chocolate! Yum! You could easily do this for Valentine's Day with heart cookie cutters instead!  I told the girls to make sure they put their pinkies up...so cute!
I basically just put a bunch of red things that I had in the cupboards on their plates!

New Year's Day "Fancy Dinner" with just the four of us!  Paige got all into it and helped me set the table...we talked about our "high's & low's" of 2010 and it was a great night!

Hope your Christmas was magical and that you are enjoying the New Year!  Here are a few Christmas highlights from the Panfilio fam...PART one!

Here she is waving her bell and singing for her preschool Christmas program... you gotta love seeing 3 year olds perform on stage!

She was so cute and sang out very loud most of the song!

Christmas Morning!
It should actually be called the CRAZY coupe...when this wild man is in it.  He literally sat in this thing for HOURS on Christmas day.  He especially loved this spot where he could sit, watch the TV and see Izzy (also known as "Ee Ee").
 Love this guy!

TRADITIONS...crafts with kids make great gifts!

 TRADITIONS...Crafting with kids!

Crafting with kids this time of year is great...its a win-win!  Even if you don't like to craft try it. The kids get to do the work and you get to make them into gifts that people (like your family members) will love! My friend Mishawn was just telling me they make an ornament every year for the grandparents and write the kids names & the year on the back. Now it's a tradition that everyone looks forward to! So get creative...have fun...and enjoy!  And be sure to check out the dollar stores and dollar sections of stores like Target...they usually have great ideas like these "stain-glass window" ornaments!

Here is one where I had to get really creative...my snowman is on the left and Paige's is on the right.  I just grabbed a few random things and we made it work.  If you have not used oil pastels you should check it out...they work great on colored paper because the colors stand out  more than crayons. This is just plain old black construction paper. Paige's snowman family consists of a "pom-pom" child,  a mommy (made with the cotton disks used to remove make-up), a "button" child, and a pastel drawn daddy! There is not wrong way to do it...with a little guidance and open mind you can have fun!

Wrapping paper fun...
If making the crafts into gifts is too much of a stretch for you...why not make the wrapping paper?  Just add pretty ribbon!  Elsie helped me make this wrapping paper a few years ago...it's just brown paper on a roll and finger paints!  You can do this with sponges or stamps.  You can make stamps with corks, apples and even potatoes cut into any shape you like!  Play around with dipping different textures like wadded up plastic bags or Brillo pads or even loofah's in the paint and make a pattern.  Throw some stickers on there and call it good!

Finger paints are so fun that Paige and i did this last year...these became little pieces of wrapping paper for books and CD's...I just figured stripping her down was the best way to go to avoid going crazy if she stained something!

Some Ideas from www.realsimple.com

Oranges as Mini Snowman

Annie Schlechter

Build snowmen without bundling up. For a holiday party, give each child three oranges,
some toothpicks, a sturdy plate, and store-bought frosting. Stick the large orange to the center of the plate with a dollop of frosting. Poke a few toothpicks halfway into the top of
the fruit and spear a smaller orange on top. Repeat with the third orange, and layer on frosting, a vanilla wafer, and peppermints to make a hat. Use candy-cane pieces for arms
and a nose, cloves for the eyes, and red licorice for a scarf.
