TRADITIONS...crafts with kids make great gifts!

 TRADITIONS...Crafting with kids!

Crafting with kids this time of year is great...its a win-win!  Even if you don't like to craft try it. The kids get to do the work and you get to make them into gifts that people (like your family members) will love! My friend Mishawn was just telling me they make an ornament every year for the grandparents and write the kids names & the year on the back. Now it's a tradition that everyone looks forward to! So get creative...have fun...and enjoy!  And be sure to check out the dollar stores and dollar sections of stores like Target...they usually have great ideas like these "stain-glass window" ornaments!

Here is one where I had to get really creative...my snowman is on the left and Paige's is on the right.  I just grabbed a few random things and we made it work.  If you have not used oil pastels you should check it out...they work great on colored paper because the colors stand out  more than crayons. This is just plain old black construction paper. Paige's snowman family consists of a "pom-pom" child,  a mommy (made with the cotton disks used to remove make-up), a "button" child, and a pastel drawn daddy! There is not wrong way to do it...with a little guidance and open mind you can have fun!

Wrapping paper fun...
If making the crafts into gifts is too much of a stretch for you...why not make the wrapping paper?  Just add pretty ribbon!  Elsie helped me make this wrapping paper a few years ago...it's just brown paper on a roll and finger paints!  You can do this with sponges or stamps.  You can make stamps with corks, apples and even potatoes cut into any shape you like!  Play around with dipping different textures like wadded up plastic bags or Brillo pads or even loofah's in the paint and make a pattern.  Throw some stickers on there and call it good!

Finger paints are so fun that Paige and i did this last year...these became little pieces of wrapping paper for books and CD's...I just figured stripping her down was the best way to go to avoid going crazy if she stained something!

Some Ideas from www.realsimple.com

Oranges as Mini Snowman

Annie Schlechter

Build snowmen without bundling up. For a holiday party, give each child three oranges,
some toothpicks, a sturdy plate, and store-bought frosting. Stick the large orange to the center of the plate with a dollop of frosting. Poke a few toothpicks halfway into the top of
the fruit and spear a smaller orange on top. Repeat with the third orange, and layer on frosting, a vanilla wafer, and peppermints to make a hat. Use candy-cane pieces for arms
and a nose, cloves for the eyes, and red licorice for a scarf.

Homemade Gifts:

And of course Homemade gifts are great.  You can make luminaries like these from white paper bags or brown bags and a hole punch or circle shaped paper punches...make your own design or find a pattern online.  See how pretty they look at night? Great for Christmas Eve or a party or even New Years Eve!

A few years ago I made this little book for my mom.  It was a list of my favorite things about her, with pictures and little jokes. This book is about the size of a 3x3" square but you could make a larger one.  This was so personal and fun that she loved it! Great for anyone you love (and if you are a scrapbooker it is a great way to use little scraps of paper and ribbon that you never seem to know how to use)!

I love these "Brown Brag Books" that I used to make. They can be filled with pictures or memorabilia (such as invitations or ticket stubs) and they are small and easily fit in a purse or on a coffee table for display.  Give "as is" or add pictures and your recipient will be all set to brag away.

I love this hand painted onesie (although I apologize for the terrible picture).  Just wash your garment first, get fabric paint and foam stamps. Paint onto the stamps and them place them on your fabric of choice.  So fun! The possibilities are endless and great for anyone!

Let me know what you decide to buy or make this year!

Traditions...Christmas Countdown & Advent!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...Yeah! It is my favorite time of year and while I have been sort of unable to get in the groove "on time" this year...I am really getting in the spirit now! So this month I will be sharing with you a few of my favorite traditions for the Holiday Season! Some of them are old, some are new, and some a quirky (like me) but I hope you will enjoy them.  Feel free to share your ideas too...can you ever have enough?  I have a fun Christmas Countdown & Advent that I use. The list has fun Christmas activities like "Drink Hot Chocolate & read the Polar Express" or "Make Christmas goodies for the Neighbors" or "Make gingerbread houses" & "Happy Birthday Jesus crafts"...the list goes on and on.  I just made a spreadsheet in Excel and now I can use it to cut the days into strips and make a paper chain, or put them in a jar and grab a new one out each day, or wrap them around candy or toys and put them in a little Christmas House (that's what I do these days).  Some people hang up little socks or mittens on a string with clothes pins and place little goodies in each one to be revealed each day.   Whatever the method, have fun! love- *laura* xoxox  (P.S. If you are dying for a copy of my list just drop me a quick email at panfilio@mac.com and I would love to pass it on to you.  It's a little late to use it for 25 days but you can go from today...or try just doing just the "Twelve days of Christmas" this year!)

...oh how i love to craft!!!!

So what have I been up to these past few months in my spare time you ask?

Crafting! Oh how I love to craft.  Being creative fills me up and helps me feel
myself in a way that few other things can.

Here are just a few things I've been making and will be selling at the upcoming Light of Christmas BOUTIQUE in Southern California next week!  If you see something you would like I can make special orders...so just send me an email if you are interested: panfilio@mac.com

Kissing Balls...use as ornaments or in place of mistletoe...
each one says "meet me under the mistletoe"

Journals...for anything...but especially "Love Letter Journals"
...more to come on those

So what is a "Love Bug" you ask?

Simply HIDE this LOVE BUG for a loved one & once it is found it’s their turn to hide it for you! Sneak it into shoes, lunches, pockets or even silly places like the flour container, purses or luggage! You can even slip a note in the bag! Great between spouses, mommies & kids, siblings or even long distance friends!

CAUTION: LOVE BUGs ARE NOT INTENDED FOR CHILDREN UNDER 5 YEARS OLD
AS THEY COULD BECOME A CHOKING HAZARD

Here are a few fun places to hide "Love Bugs" for your kids, grand kids, siblings,
friends or spouse!  Each one comes in a small bag so that you can add it to more
delicate places and/or add notes! Have fun doing with with your own items too!

So...until next time...*laura* xoxo
